How cavity wall insulation works

How cavity wall insulation works

How cavity wall insulation works

Preparation of walls

Small holes are drilled into the exterior walls of the building at regular intervals, typically from the outside. These holes provide access to the cavity (empty space) between the inner and outer walls.

Insulation injection

Insulation material, such as foam or mineral wool, is injected into the cavity through the drilled holes. The insulation fills the void, creating a thermal barrier that helps to retain heat within the building and improve energy efficiency.

Sealing and restoration

Once the insulation is injected, the drilled holes are sealed to prevent air leakage and maintain the integrity of the building’s exterior. Any exterior finishes or cladding that were removed during the installation process are restored, leaving the building’s appearance unchanged.

You may qualify if your household earns less than 31k per year. Other qualifying criteria include some long term health issues or disabilities.

The ECO4 Scheme is a government-backed obligation made by energy companies to help low-income and vulnerable households tackle fuel poverty in the UK. This is done through energy companies providing grants to help cover the cost of energy-efficient upgrades for households whose annual earnings are less than £31,000 a year, claim benefits or have long term health problems. The upgrades result in lower energy consumption, energy bills and make your home warmer.
